Introduction |
---|
Shifting northward to hold a line south of the Belgian capital of Brussels, the Moroccans dug in on the Wavre battlefield of 1815 to await another German attack. The German XVI Armored Corps, balked in their first attempts to break the French lines, renewed their assault with tanks in the forefront and plenty of artillery support. |
Conclusion |
---|
French doctrine called for direct armored support for the infantry, as well as full divisions of tanks held in reserve to combat or create breakthroughs. The French armored support enabled the Moroccans to hold their lines and throw back the Germans. The French First Army was holding the Dyle Line despite frantic German attempts to break through. That wasn’t true everywhere, though. |
