The immediate objective was for the Germans to from a decent defensive line to face the oncoming Russian onslaught. The rise on board 105 facing East was chosen as the line of resistance. The Germans got there in time to set it up and it held for roughly 3-3.5 hours. Eventually, the second Russian Regiment started to come up on line and the battle spread to the flanks of the German defensive position and the line folded. A general retreat to offer a "last ditch" defensive effort was made in the last town on board 105, but the Germans had been whittled down enough by then to make that last effort forlorn and the Russians swept up the remaining German units.

Under the category of "if only"..... IF the Germans had gotten to the bottleneck in the forest area of board 102, it would have been possible to "stack up" the Russian units along the road leaving the Russians no alternative but to flank THAT position or to bludgeon their way through. Which would have cost time. Not sure if the gambit would have paid off enough to help the Germans or even if it could be accomplished. Another time, perhaps.
