Introduction

The middle of northern Negros Island presented a tangle of hills and jungles, cut by streams and dirt roads. The Japanese pulled back into this area to tie down the Americans for as long as they could. Having failed to bring away the heavy anti-aircraft guns from the airfields of northern Negros, the Japanese commander, Lt. Gen Takeshi Kono, relied on his lightly-armed infantry to sacrifice themselves.

Conclusion

Backed by plentiful artillery support, the American 185th Infantry Regiment attacked the center of the Japanese line, soon running into well-concealed Japanese positions. Hard fighting won them their objectives, but the Japanese pulled back in good order, leaving behind small teams armed with aerial bombs, who set them off when the Americans entered their lines. Securing the next, even more formidable Japanese line would require greater firepower.

Additional Notes

Use the US Jeep from Leyte 44, 75mm from Dragon's Teeth.

Scenario MIND001

Mindanao 1945, scenario #1: Kono’s Inner Fortress

This was a grind of a scenario but not in a bad way, the Americans have just barely the forces to achieve their three objectives but with 2 FLM & 2 ENG units they are able to do it after some hard fighting. The Special scenario Rule #3 helped the Japanese where things were in doubt with a while but the Americans win a Major victory this time. It really could have playout differently but setups and attack locations were critical and could happen differently each game play. The Americans also lost two steps and a leader to mines. With 22 turns, they can’t mess around.
