As APL has done before, not necessarily without reason, Japanese armor has changed with Pacific Armor.
Most of the change has to do with naming. Before tanks were noted by their year, based on the Japanese imperial years, which started counting in 660 BC. Thus tanks were all named Type (year), like Type 95 (2595) or Type 3 (2603). The tanks in Pacific Armor are named for the type of tank and model number. The Type 3 tank became Chi-Nu (medium tank, model 10). That's generally good.
Other changes have to do with combat and movement factors, but not with all the armor. Most of the more advanced Japanese armor was introduced with
Waltzing Matilda and/or
Nihon Silk. That's a little more questionable in some cases, like the Type 1 Ho-Ni tank destroyer.
The guidelines I chose for the library are, use the kind & model name, when it has changed, and update the unit factors if there have become more games with the newer values, with ties going to the newer values. For those of you refighting the Pacific War, that's what happed to the Type 1's.
