New to AP games and am trying to get to grips with IA as the era is interesting enough to have a go at.

I could really do with a player aid or quick reference sheet and have poked around here at PG-HQ, BGG and at AP themselves to no avail. While I am kinda used to set up my own QRS' for other games, I just want to get a smooth start into IA to see if the system scratches my itch regarding the Great War.
Any pointers?

Cheers!

While I was plugging through some of my "unplayed" scenario books, I happened to run across "Tank Battles" which incorporates a nice set of "counters" on the back of the book (which, of course I will copy rather than "tear up" my copy of the book!) but, alas, there were no leaders in the "set". Did I miss something, or what ?????

Attached is what I call a Flip Card or Game Reminders, I used it to help me learn the rules without having to go through the rule book every time I had a question, needed a clarification or a reminder of a rule. Some might find it helpful, it is a word document so you can edit it or expand on it. Am an old football coach so keeping it simple and to one page, front & back, was a must, maybe it can help a new player. If you see any errors or have any suggestions let me know.

My first PG game was the Kokoda Campaign, hence the disorientation chart on the front.
Tank Battles and Hopeless But Not Serious (and I expect Darkness Falls will too) have a scenario where Hitler is holding Kurt Schuschnigg hostage. The Austrian army is preparing to storm the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest), but Schuschnigg was freed before that actualy occurred.
Mongolian People's Army
Polish counters in Polish Exiles no longer need French substitutes, the Polish colors are here. There are also OBA markers to support all the scenarios
Polish casemates.
Back with White Eagles, one had to use strongpoints from Airborne, until APL created Polish strongpoints as a download. Portee counters
Stacks in PG are big enough. This helps keep the portees from building that tower.
South Korean M20 replacement counters
The simple fact is that the M20 is not, nor could be, an APC. As an APC in Pusan Perimeter it is either superfluous on incongruous to the scenarios in which it appears.

On an impulse last week I made a counterset for gaming friend of what would have been his unit in WW2. Then there was another counterset for another not as friendly but equally respectable guy's unit. Along with the countersets I created Vassal unit extensions. (Once the first is done the other is easy.) No, I'm not giving unit designations or names without permission.

I have 3 motivations for this sort of endeavor. A geeky tribute, because I appreciate what we have here, despite our problems. I think the historical side of gaming should more alive and personal. And lastly, I hope to further inspire members creativity.

Now that I have kind of started, I thought I would extend an offer of counterset/extension creation to any vet, from any army who might want one. All you would need to do is PM/email me and I will look into the possibility. This offer is good for those who may have been enemies at the time too. My motivation would be less about tribute and more of historical enlivening in that case, but the offer is still good.

I am limited to 77 counters on a DIY sheet. These would be WW2 based formations of regiment or battalion size A ww2 linage would be good. I would like to make the countersheets available for all, but won't be doing it without the subject's permission. I also will not use any requestor's name/handle without their permission. I cannot guaranty a successful outcome, only promise an honest attempt. If you would like a counterset of your alma mater, let me know.

I made a cursory look-through this sub-forum, but didn't see anything similar. So, enclosed is a very simple scenario record table (by turn) in pdf format to keep track of various game turn stats/events that might be useful in writing subsequent AARs. Essentially, this allows one to keep track of:

Side Initiative (useful both for the Initiative Determination Phase or IDP), but also for documenting initiative losses which are sometimes factors in determining Battle Game outcomes.

# of segments of initiative won and by which side.

Step losses by each side.

Running totals of VPs (so that one can keep track of running step losses and/or positional VPs).

Other turn notes (e.g. FoW rolls; aircraft drawn; reinforcements; weather whatever).

Really, the idea was to have a tidy way to review the scenario play after the fact to aid one in writing AARs. For an example of how I did this a number of years ago now, see my AAR for St. Vith: the Fall (ER #22) where, for example (turn; IDP; German VP; US VP; Comments).
10 US+1 15 47 Tigers bushwacked by M18.
11 G+2 21 48 Slush; initiative bad news for M18 crews; vis 1 hex.
12 G+1 21 48 Night rules in play.
13 US+1 24 48
14 G+1 27 49 Board 23 now clear of US units

Keeping this in Excel would also be easy, especially for folks playing on Vassal or by Zoom or such, but I'm so old-school that having a pencil-and-paper record is comforting. So, FWIW:
This new resin printer, on the other hand, is absolutely astounding.

So if you're into minis and have been looking for someone to print for you, post here. I'd be happy to run items during off hours for the cost of materials and postage.

Our print volume is 5.11 x 3.14 x 6.49 in // 130 x 80 x 165 mm.

I'll post some samples here once we get it set up and running.

I know a lot of us are familiar w the Hamete Virtual Dice Roller. I was first introduced to it a couple years ago by Scott Blanchett, (has anyone heard from him lately?), and have been using it ever since. But, there seems to be a problem with it. It appears to be overly repetitive. I don’t think my dice tower is as repetitive. For example, tonight I’m getting a load of 10s. Many times, I’ll get say 4-5 7s or 8s in a row. For the first time in memory I rolled a 17 the other night.

BTW, as far as logistics go, I’ve already hit it on turn 4 w a 4 in my current game, but threw it out. One adjustment there might be to go to a 3 and an 18, if players want two numbers that might be a bit lower odds than a3 and a 4.

Ever since the Guadalcanal Naval article in 2013, I thought other nations needed some ships too. In while building OOB support for Saipan and Marianas, I looked at the little land barges and the one gunboat and thought is was rather pitiful for such a naval power of the time. So I did what I always do.
Just saying.

1) Troop list is varied -
a) Germans - Some of really good (11th Panzer) and really bad formations (a number of ost battalionen)
b) US Army - VI Corps (3rd ID, 36th ID, 45th ID)
c) French Army - 1st Army - 11 total divisions including three armored divisions organized and equipped along U.S. Army lines.
d) Unusual units
1) 1st Special Service Force (Devils Brigade) a combined U.S. Canadian Force
2) French Commandos
3) French Maquis
4) Jedburgh Commando's (OSS)
5) ADHOC 1st Airborne Task Force - combined British/American Airborne Division which included a small Nisei Detachment.
6) ADHOC Combat Command - U.S. Task Force Butler based on the 117th Mechanized Cavalry Squadron - a reconnaissance unit.

2) Types of Missions
a) Amphibious Landings
b) Airborne Drops
c) Exploitation/Pursuit (at the operational level)
d) Seizure of Towns
e) Escape (maintaining avenue of retreat) along one major route
d) several pitched battles (Marseille, Toulon, and Montelimar)

3) There are a number of good works that can be used to provide background on the campaign -- I own several of primary sources and unit histories in English (almost all American POV).

4) A book size treatment might be good with the inclusion of some counters, but a specialty map or two might be good. For some of the smaller fights I think several of the maps in the inventory would work. The high ground and the rivers around Montelmar might require a special map. I haven't really read up to much on the battles of Toulon or Marseille. That seems like it would be an interesting research project.
Mike,
I moved the thread over here because we are not talking about Brazilians any more, and are kind of creating a new project.

Since you have access to the Vassal library, the experimental side of the project should be quite easy. The German and basic American OOBs are mostly done. The Free French should be quick, mostly British graphics, American combat factors and a new background. Special forces and commandos will be a little harder. Then, are there new maps?

I would start with the OOBs. Look in the extension documentation for the catalogs for the Americans and Germans. Make up lists for the French and whomever. Then think about maps to use or create. If you are thinking about a dead-tree game, Elsenborn is good place to start.
