Exclamation  Liberation 1944 Woods/Light Woods
The Second Edition of Liberation 1944 has a terrain chart on the back cover which has errors as to woods and light woods.  I checked with Mike Perryman and he told me these are the woods/light woods hexes for Maps 57, 58 and 59:

"There are no wood hexes on board 56. The only woods hexes to the best of my knowledge are hexes 0814, 0815 0915, and 0916 on board 57, Light wood hexes 0201, 0301 and 0302 and wood hexes 0215, 0216, 0315, 0316, 3017, 0415 and 0416 on board 58. Light wood hexes 1001, 1002, 1102 and1103 and wood hex 0610 on board 59."

Disregard the 2nd Ed chart for woods/light woods and use the above.

This sure clears things up!

Thanks!

A good heads up about these PG maps, which are notoriously hard to discern terrain features on, due to the overall dark green hue.

I would say the developer has the final word (and you know I’m on the designer’s side!). He makes choices and these have a reason.
The back cover of Liberation 44 2nd edition indeed indicates that all depicted woods are … just woods ! However, many scenarios turn woods into light woods. I’m pretty happy with that since, as far as my eyes can see, I wouldn’t be able to separate possible different drawings of pseudo woods/light woods on Liberation 44 maps.
Now, the back cover of 2nd edition also indicates what we consider a hedgerow (along a hexside) to be Light Woods. If you read the hedgerow rule in the first edition, you will see that it is treated exactly like a Light Woods or let’s say a Treeline. Not like a hedgerow. As most Liberation scenarios are located in non-hedgerow areas near Caen, it is ok with me.

Well that is interesting.  It sure is a departure from normal terrain depiction.  So, then if the tree depiction is on three hex-sides, like a star, then are the three hexes all light woods?  is that what is trying to be shown?  Or is only the LOS and movement affected if it crosses the "light woods" hexside?  And then if a unit is in one such hex but the LoS does not cross the light woods hexside, does the defender in the hex still get -1 or not?

I asked Dr. B about this and he says that the Liberation 1944 2nd Ed chart on the back cover has an error.  The Hex for Light Woods on the chart should be Hex 301 from Board 58 but, unfortunately, Hex 301 from Board 59 was put in the chart.

Well, if hex 301 of board 58 should replace the one with the hedge hexside, then Woods and Light Woods would have identical drawings… Still confused.

Just go with what Mike Perryman told me and I posted above and the confusion should go away.
