The river rule, once more.
I'm not certain but it seems to me that there is a "standard" MP expenditure that mech and inf must expend to cross (exit) a river (with or without Eng unit) depending on the river. I absolutely cannot find that (those) number(s) anywhere. I have seen them mentioned in some scenarios I have played but not all of them. Is there a "fall back" (Standard) set of numbers? If there is please relay them to me as I am pulling out my hair trying to find it. (If it even exists!!!!)

The general procedure is listed on page 12-13 of the 4th edition rules under 5.7 River Crossings.

Each scenario that has major or minor rivers has specific numbers for the required die roll to allow personal, motorized or mechanized units to cross. Major rivers always require an ENG to be present in the crossing hex.

I read the "rules" (as listed) but am either blind or there is no specific number of MPs listed. Whch bring us back to my original question: Is there a standard, fall back set of numbers for those scenarios that don't have the numbers listed in the scenario set up? (...and they DO exist!)

I got the rest of it, just need those numbers.

It's like the T-Rex noted, each scenario that includes rivers, lists the die roll number required get across.

OK! I cite "Dogs of War", number 1 as an instance where there is no reference to any "passing of the unit" through, around or "en passant" of a river, in this case, minor (clearly stated) There are others. So... either I am mad, blind or a complete idiot.

Which brings us back to my original question....

Many PG scenarios contain major errors and omissions, Don.

You're right about there not being a definitive set of die rolls to get across a river anywhere in the 4th edition rule book. If the scenario instructions doesn't provide a set of numbers, just make up your own.

Wing it, Gunny! After all, it's your game . . . play it the way you like it.

Hi Gunny, I don't own Dogs of War but I noticed that scenario 3 concerns the same river. Does that scenario have the crossing numbers? Or maybe they are in the overall rules section of the module? Hope you find them somewhere.

RE: The river rule, once more.
The river in scenario one of The Dogs of War is a minor river.  It does not need nor have crossing numbers.  Note this from 5.73 "In any subsequent game turn, the crossing unit may attempt to leave the river hex. If the unit is a motorized unit crossing a minor river, it may leave the river hex automatically. If the unit is crossing a major river, the owning player rolls two dice and compares the result to the River Crossing Number for the unit's type (foot, motorized or mechanized) in the scenario instructions."

And then back to 5.71: "Foot and mechanized units may enter minor river hexes without bridges or fords by paying the MP cost for river hexes on the TEC. They may cross to the other side of the river by paying the normal MP cost for the hex entered. Motorized units may not enter a minor river hex except on a road or trail, in a town or village, or at a bridge or ford. Motorized units may not cross it (except at a bridge or ford) without help from an ENG..."

No need for crossing numbers at all for a minor river.
