RE: AFV Leading activation questions
Quote:The one we were discussing about unloading in an assault, for example.

I think I have shown that it is not doctrinal for WWII mech units to dismount right into the assault hex.  The HTs were battle taxis, not Infantry Fighting Vehicles.  If they had done so it would have been against very weakened and suppressed enemies and would be the exception and not the rule.  Thus a scenario designer could make it so by special rule anyhow if there was extensive historical proof that it was done in that action or a particular unit was so highly trained... and bold.

However, I would say, since charging right into small arms and hand grenade range is open topped and lightly armored HTs (at that range MGs would hammer the HT's armor) that the defender would get a +1 shift if the enemy decided to to dismount right on top of them.  Extended assault does portray this vulnerability: If an attacking APC includes loaded personnel, they may not voluntarily unload in the same activation as an Extended Assault; they may unload in subsequent activations."

Frankly, thinking about this, the rules as written do show the vulnerability of dismounting n the assault hex.  In a normal assault, you could send your loaded HTs into the assault hex.  They then face a turn of fighting without their infantry dismounted and are thus vulnerable.  Then the next turn, they dismount as reinforcing the assault hex... if they survive.

There is no need to change any rules.
