Oh, and by the way, if you don't want to drive up in your HT next to an enemy occupied town and set there inside the HT for a turn, plan your attack accordingly to make sure you have the 1 MP left in order to dismount.  This is good play and the game mechanics work for the good player and not for the ones that don't bother to count... or can't.
