APC or not ?

APC or not ?
What do you think of the status of Kubelwagens, Jeep MG or Soviet KMS regarding stacking and casualties (X obtained on Bombardment table for example) ?

Kubelwagens and Jeep MG are combat units AND transports but no APC.
Soviet KMC is a combat unit AND transport (Prime mover) but no APC.

Stacking limits are
- 3 combat units
- 3 transports (incl. APCs) + passengers/guns in tow

Bombardment casualties :
If X, one combat unit loses one step (not close top AFVs) AND one non-APC transport lose one step, too.

Do you treat these units as APCs even if they are not ?

RE: APC or not ?
None are APC's. As they are all transports, their loses in non-assault combat would not step losses to combat units when called for by X results.
Kubelwagens and Jeep MG's are armed trucks. Being unarmed transport they would take a hit on an X result.
The KMS is more like the SK7. It would take a morale check on an X result and be killed on a 2X result.

For my part, I don't think Jeep MG's and Jeep .50 should be able to transport any units. I don't think there is enough room after a driver, gunner and (quite probably) an assistant.

They are all transport units, and Peter is right, they are not APCs.

Although, that Soviet KMS is armed & configured much like the British Bren Carrier, which did serve as an APC, like various halftracks, e.g., US M-3 series and German SPW 251.

Could/should a jeep MG or Jeep .50 transport light artillery?  Perhaps a small antitank gun or AA gun?

They shouldn't. They are already partly loaded, and again, not much space. That said, the game system as written treats them as regular jeeps. Think of it sort of like considering an M6 as having transport capacity. Isn't it a ¾-ton truck?

The kubelwagens are different in my mind because I don't think they have a heavy weapon mount and gun crew.

RE: APC or not ?
So, I understand you will treat Jeep MG and Kubelwagens as transports rather than combat units.
Imagine 1 x INF + Kubelwagen in a hex. Then you obtain a X with Bombardment of that hex. The INF loses one step and the kubelwagen is eliminated. Right ?
What do you do if the hex contains 2 x Kubelwagen ? Eliminate both of them : one as a combat unit and one as a transport ?

RE: APC or not ?
Keep in mind that we are discussing a house rule viewpoint based on my perspective.

I see Jeep MG and Jeep .50 as one-step combat units. Thus an X kills one as though it we a combat unit, such as a weapon, which also only has 1 step.
I see a kubelwagen as a transport. So an X would kill it collaterally along with combat units. If there was an X, with 2 kubelwagens in the hex, only one would be destroyed.

RE: APC or not ?
Peter is right about the lack of space in armed, jeeps.

But, a .50 Cal HMG mounted on a 2 1/2 (Deuce and a Half) truck would have enough room for at least a squad of crunchies in the bed, or a the crew and some ammo/supplies for a towed artillery piece.

What we are discussing would be an exception that would not justify a new rule at this level of abstraction, IMHO.
