A leader loss check
A leader is stacked with 2 loaded wagons, one with an AT gun, the other with an HMG. An artillery strike on the 55 column gets fairly lucky with a roll of 2. Both wagons and their passengers evaporate. 2 transports died taking 3 steps with them.

Does the leader check for his demise with a -2 to the dice roll (because the step  losses are technically against the wagons) or with a -3 (because 3 steps of units were killed)? My guess is -2, because of the technicality of the losses. Does anyone think otherwise?

RE: A leader loss check
So your basing the leader loss "metric" on the destroyed wagons....not the destroyed units within the wagons.
3 steps of WPN/Personnel were destroyed.....

If you had a truck, with an infantry squad and officer destroyed in same way....
(say we know they were loaded because the trucks moved full distance in their last move (I'll come to that...))
if the truck was "blown to smithereens" you're saying the leader would only take a -1 because the truck was hit
(and ignore the lost of a full platoon)....

A few questions---
1) why was the leader not blown up with the wagon---was he not loaded?
2) If it's because "he has enough MP to move without loading in wagon--" well, so does the Infantry...but if
the Infantry is destroyed (a 2X...combat units and transports) then he would take a -2 for the Inf --and something for
the gun...
3) In the Truck example above--the Inf/Leader cannot (say it was road...ok!!...) move last turn (or this) and make it too
the hex without being loaded--so they (both) are loaded...

So---I'm thinking what matters is the Units...the Transports are not the loss or where the leaders energy/resources are focused...
I don't think he divided his team up among the trucks, in the front cabs---but had them spread among the riders in the rear...
when stuff happened to the INF, it happened to them...
-3...
 -2 is kinda gamey, IMHO....

RE: A leader loss check
I would say -3 because wagons don’t count. But if the transport were open top APC, it would be worse…

RE: A leader loss check
The rulebook clearly states that ALL contents of a transport are destroyed if they are loaded in the transport and the transport is destroyed. I would assume that includes loaded officers.

If the leader was NOT loaded (for some obscure reason, perhaps he was out for his morning jog?) then it would be a -3, per the rulebook.

True enough. In this case the leaders were stacked above the transport, thus by our play convention they were not in the transport. Since the transports were wagons, the leaders were unlikely to use them for transport anyway.

RE: A leader loss check
I sometimes have my leaders jog alongside the transport so they run less risk of getting blown up.
