OBA....Smoke and Fire Procedure differences...
So....there seems to be a clear (in my aged brain) differentiation on how SMOKE and HE/Bombardment
are to be handled....for OBA (or actually any Bombardment)

Exec. Summary:  When firing smoke---you fire by unit or mission.  When Bombarding, you target a HEX.
Meaning, you can hit the same hex with smoke missions until it's successful---but with Bombardment, you
have to assign the fire for that activation total factors before you roll, and you can't fire at that hex
again with bombardment factors during that activation.....

Review the wording on the two different actions:

For Bombardment:
9.4 ProcedureFor each hex being bombarded, the active player totals the bombardment fire strengths of all units bombarding the hex. He then finds the column on the Bombardment Table which either equals or does not exceed the total fire value of all units bombarding that hex this segment,

For Smoke:
Procedure: For each unit or artillery increment firing, the active player designates a spotted target hex within range and rolls two dice. On a result of 5 or more the firing player places either a Smoke marker or an Illumination marker in the target hex. Subtract one from the result for 60mm (or smaller) mortars, and add one if the firing unit can spot the target hex.

1) I note that under Artillery the rules on the website edition 4 are modified now to clarify the 3units vs. total activation---Kudos to the responsible party...
2) There is clearly a differentiation in how Smoke vs. FFE/HE is assigned (notice I slipped in the FireForEffect reference.....)

This also clarifies, for me anyway, a viewpoint difference I had with a tanker active in the game previously...
I think with these understandings....if a player was firing multiple Bombardment units.....and decided to fire--say a star shell with
the first one....he could do that.....Then, because a bunch of Trucks were revealed with the resulting illumination, he could then
use the remainder of the FIRING (activated to fire) units to do Bombardment fires (by hex!!)--that would be completely legitimate...
he could only fire on each hex Once...for that segment---but there is no stricture that he has to specify which units are firing Illumniation or Smoke even,
and which are firing Bombardment, before he begins firing the Ill/Smoke.....

So very glad to see this outlined correctly - and with a high level of panache, Mon Ami!

Perhaps, now is time to renew our epic 16-time zone, struggle por La Belle France.
