Hidden (?) units.
One of the biggest problems I have with PG is the fact that you can (generally) see ALL the units that your opponent has at his disposal. Now, while I can see where this is the best that can be attained.... but it sure takes the mystery out of an attack, (approach to contact, ambush, et al.). On the other hand, there IS the "cheating" problem.......

But, between friends (defined as two people who trust each other implicitly), could there be some way to set up a house rule to prevent the "100 percent intelligence" we have with the current situation?

Ideas?

Doesn't that require a third party?

Enlighten me with the nitty gritty details of the system! (I'm all ears.)

RE: Hidden (?) units.
Okay, here goes.
It isn't absolute double-blind, that would take a moderator. It's pretty close though.

The concept is that all of your undemoralized units, except for unarmed and unloaded transport must be under observation by an observation point, unless otherwise allowed to be hidden. Any undemoralized combat unit or leader may create an observation point. Any undemoralized combat unit or leader observed by the enemy becomes an observation point. Until unit or leader is observed it is hidden from the opposing player.

When the game opens, each player will only see the observation points. Opposing units and leaders within LOS of an observation point are unhidden. Those units and leaders then qualify as observation points. Once everyone who can see each other is unhidded, then you play. Stuff will appear and be rehidden during the game. It leaves a lot of opportunity for bluffing and spoofing.

The biggest drawback we've found using this system, comes from fixed OOB's. One starts to count units. Otherwise it works quite well.

Now THAT sounds interesting! I'll see how my primary opponent feels about this. Thanks.

I can imagine. I can see where the AT guns can actually have an "ambush" affect. That ought to "upset" the "blitzkriegers" somewhat.

Oh, for Pete's sake, in shared - online or face-to-face - play, just use the 4th edition hidden units rule (1/3 of the units and leaders in scenarios were the units maybe setup as dug-in) or else allow the defending side to be completely hidden, and risk the resulting opfire.

Why play with individuals you don't trust, or persnickety rules lawyers? I don't.

It's just a game, It's supposed to be fun to play . . .
