Solo Play
I'm returning to PG after a few years. How do I start a solo game on vassal?

RE: Solo Play
Based on the question, I assume you have the Panzer Grenadier Über Base Module installed and whichever extensions you need for you game are already in your extension directory. Right? If you haven't, go read this thread.

Since you asked specifically about a solo game, start Vassal and open the PG Über module. Start a new game offline, choose solitaire as your side. Both sides units and leaders will be available to you. Everything else is like a shared play.

Lots of us can walk you through the process if you need more direct help.

Thanks Peter.

So, I now have the base module - where do I find the games? For instance Fire in the Steppe or Road to Dunkirk.

RE: Solo Play
Actually, I wonder if the issue is that I may have been dis-enrolled after a lapse of so many years.

One goes to PG-HQ and selects Vassal Data Files. Once there, one selects the individual game packs for the PG games that you own and downloads the extensions needed to play the scenarios.

Peter's suggestion to play through the Uber Mentoring set first is a splendid idea. Vassal can be a bit fiddly to learn to play, and this will give you a chance to try a variety of Eastern Front scenarios in both SOLO or SHARED play.

As Peter indicates, there are a number of us within the PG-HQ Brethren that would be pleased to play through the Uber Mentoring series with you online in SHARED mode.

RE: Solo Play
Thanks Tread. I did the mentoring a few years ago but after a couple of additional solo plays I stopped. Carried on buying & playing the games themselves but not on vassal.
I use vassal a lot so that's not an issue. It's just getting the scenarios up so your advice should help now.

Cheers

RE: Solo Play
Everything sorted now with the help I received and have downloaded all the extensions for the games I have.
Started playing an uber scenario again last night & reading Deluge today to start properly.
Thanks once again.

There is also some question whether German afv are efficient....
In white eagles (polish conflict published under 3rd edition) they are...
In deluge they all have leaders, but no mention of efficiency is made..

I don't see an if question, there is always a should question.

"Full-strength (not reduced) German AFV unit" is the inclusion statement under Armor Efficiency, in both the 3rd Edition and 4th Edition rules (it is also in the 2nd Edition rules too). Thus, for German AFV to not be efficient would game or scenario special rule. Such a GSR exists in Deluge and Peace in Our Time. It does not exist in C&CV1: War in the East,  White Eagles or Tank Battles, and is specifically reaffirmed in Hopeless But Not Serious and Sinister Forces. So, no if question.

Should is another issue. This is a rePete® and Craig question, with some others. My general view is that game of a reasonable level of simulation should, in reasonable probability, reflect historical or reality outcomes. In Deluge, the GSR seems to prevent that. The Poles, not regarding the TK's, have superior tanks to the Germans. Historically, the Germans defeated Poland in 39 days. (The Soviets did not attack until it was clear that the Germans would win.) German Armor contributes little, if at all, in Deluge (I don't know about PioT), and may even be a liability. That is the should question.
