Matte Counters In Parachutes over Crete?
I recently received my copy of Parachutes over Crete and upon opening the box, to my surprise I noted that the counter sheets were all matte instead of the usual semi gloss which I have loved, also the print seems slightly smudged, it may have to do with the card stock used?
Any thoughts? is this the new standard for future games or was this a one off?

They are the silkies. It is the standard counter style now. I see it as a significant improvement over the laser cut counters before them.

silkies? I find them slightly blurrier or duller than the semi gloss ones, the only advantage I see is that it cuts out light refraction hence you can see the full artwork from any direction since they have zero glare. I bought Africa Orientale Italiana and they still had the semi gloss countersheets... that was APL 0335 and POC is APL0336 so this must have just begun? Also less clean when separated, before the nibs were on the corners so after clipping you had a clean nice looking counter. But now the nibs after separating are in the middle and look messier.
What do you like about them (silkies) in particular?

Africa Orientale Italiana use the old Afrika Korps & Desert Rats counters (from 2002 - 2004).

The first thing I like about silkies is that they went back to the regular counter thickness. Laser cut counters about the same thickness as Masonite paneling. Usually the clarity is quite high, though PoCr counters seem to be a bit off from normal. Silky color doesn't seem to wear off as much. I disliked the white edges and corners I get with glossies. Silkies are not as slippery as the glossies, so stacks are more stable. So as long as silkies are readable, I would lean toward that type..

I really don't like the center nibs, but Avalanche has already stated that is how they'll be going forward.

Agree on the center nibs. No way to clip them clean, but the silky counters do stack better so the trade-off is OK.

I use a nail file for the center nibs. It works fine for me

I just live with the nibs.  I'd rather be playing with nibbed counters than spending time clipping.

I Was a bit disappointed with the very dark slightly blurred counters in Crete.  The Kettenkrads look like ink blobs unfortunately, but the maps are good and I am enjoying the game as I have been keen to get it since reading Anthony Beevor's book.
