Counting Battle Scenarios in Invasion 1944
Is there a way to register and thereby indicate the battle scenarios as "in progress or played" in Invasion 1944, and other of the newer APL games?

RE: Counting Battle Scenarios in Invasion 1944
Basic answer is no. This has been a conundrum since battle and mini-campaigns became standard  in the PG-verse.

Robin first tried to address the problem by adding battle games on to the end of the scenario lists as separate scenarios. That didn't work too well because it adds 20-30% to the scenario count of a game. It also means one would need to play the same side through the battle game, which is reasonably likely but not assured. Then what if players are just going through the scenarios, but not the battle games?

At the moment we are without a functioning plan. Whatever it is will likely require new code. That might have a retroactive requirement in play entry and may not necessarily be applicable to both sides in shared play. Even if, they would be a rather large recursive matrix to get to the results.

Even with that done, there still isn't an award scheme. Should be a bump in play counts? (I don't think so.) Should be a ribbon badge? Ribbons are probably out, as we already have game ribbons. Maybe devices on or under the campaign ribbons. That assumes the recording issue gets solved.

Hmm, maybe PG-HQ could award battle stars as was the case for US warships in WWII?
These could be displayed under the appropriate campaign ribbon for each "battle game" won, rather than for each scenario. This would likely encourage players to complete the entire scenario sequence in each individual PG game, so that their "battle game" wins (only) would show up.

"Battle Stars" good idea. Under the campaign ribbon? There is a problem, you don't have the campaign ribbon until after all scenarios of a game are played. If you have battle stars, they should be recursively applied to ribbon. Oh yeah, Drew needs to write the code.

I think I like the idea of stars for ribbons. If you do all of invasion 44 you get a ribbon. For each of the four that’ll games innovation 44 you can get a star. I think that would actually be kind of cool

Since you get the ribbon for completing all the scenario in the game/book, would the battle stars be superfluous and automatic?

As to the objections to counting them as simple play mentioned above:

"That didn't work too well because it adds 20-30% to the scenario count of a game."

Why is that an issue?   However, the Battle Games simply could be listed below the scenarios and coded as not to count in the scenario count.

"It also means one would need to play the same side through the battle game..."

Isn't that the point of a battle game, to play one side to see if you win the overall battle?  If you switch sides then you are not really playing the battle game, eh?

"Then what if players are just going through the scenarios, but not the battle games?"

Then they don't count a play of the battle game.   I think we can count on players' honesty
