Budapest - Grognard Gunny - 04-08-2026 I just read the bit about "city fighting" in the AP "promissory propaganda" daily sheet that comes out. Now THAT just might be a worthy battle scenario to look into. We'll see how the designer handled it. GG RE: Budapest - Grognard Gunny - 04-08-2026 Although there IS a map sheet already existent in the (I believe it is) the "fall of France" series..... that has some city fighting in it. GG RE: Budapest - plloyd1010 - 04-08-2026 It is an interesting idea, though I am not convinced of how practical it is in a grand tactical game. As some may recall. Panzer Leader made a similar statement in their box-back blurb. I remember Vince Hughes once asked why PG didn't do a Stalingrad game. I sent him a black &white line map of the city at the time and overlayed it with a hex grid at the PG scale. His response was, "Oh, I see.." On the other hand, if Mike P. can figure it out, the rules/scheme would also be useful for the battles of Aachen, Berlin and Manila, as well as Stalingrad. RE: Budapest - leonard - 04-08-2026 I’ve always been interested in city fight since the first Squad Leader scenarios (Streets of Stalingrad)… That’s why I’ve designed the city board in Road to Dunkirk that is modelled on Calais and the corresponding scenarios. However, many players consider the multiple assaults in town hexes as being too slow and lengthy process. Vince, as far as I know, likes it and that’s why he likes the Gembloux scenarios so much (in the original Fall of France ; now in Swallows of death). In City Fight: Budapest, I’ve modified the assault rules to allow more action inside the assault hexes and have better dynamics overall. Of course, there are also funny things like sewer movements and so on. |
