Fleeing Leaders and their Vanishing Units - cjsiam - 10-03-2025

So....A German Paratrooper who has already lost a step and become demoralized attempts
to recover with help of a leader...
Tragically (from a German perspective) he fails....
He runs toward the closest Safe hex....His Leader comes with him....
This commotion is observed by a distant 15mm Czech Machine gun, who amazingly gets an M2 at like 6 hexes....
And the demoralized half-platoon Fails by >3 his morale check.....vaporizing into the mists of the Slovakian hills....
the Leader, having passed sufficiently, without any impact to his morale from the Machine gun fire....
What is his status?

He had a move order, in order to assist in the Recovery Role...
He chose to move with the demoralized fleeing unit....
But, after moving only 1 hex---the unit disappeared...while he remains...
Does he:
A) Stop where he is?
B) Must flee to a Safe hex (though his morale is fine....)
C) Can continue moving, as if he was operating under a Move order (which, he technically was.....)

We did C).....
And then it got more fun..

I would have chosen "A", as he is/was technically "helping" the now disintegrated unit. (But... that's just me.)

I think A or B. He could continue to the safe hex (following the remnants), or just stop. Stopping is probably the more correct response, technically.

Jenny's luck seems to be better against you than against me.

I agree with cjsiam & like option C, the best, as it is definitely the most fun, interpretation.

However, A is the correct choice, per the 4th Edition PG rules as published. The leader must throw an M2 and also for possible leader loss since he, or she, was accompanying the unit that bought the farm.

Oh, and indefatigable, Capt. Jenny, has WAY better luck when playing me, than when playing either of you two!

Tread,...where in the 4th?
I couldn't find anything definitive....

Did you roll for leader loss after the infantry loss ?
I would have chosen option A but a dice roll to decide would probably be the best option.

Absolutely!
