And the Officers ran away...but... - cjsiam - 05-24-2025 So.... Tragically the last combat unit in the Town with a Leader was killed....failed a compound MC.... leaving the officer alone.... According to the "leader alone" he must displace....Roll is made, he must go... So he leaves the town hex.... As the last unit exiting the Assault hex--- A) We understood he was subject to Free Shot.....(confirm)..... B) After the Free shot--- as he enters the open hex outside town---we assessed he would also be subject to opportunity fire from nearby enemy units....of which there were tragically too many.... As another question--- In the variant of the FOW rules we play---When FOW has been rolled all units which are Demoralized MUST undertake a rally attempt--wherever they are. And, because you did not do it before FOG was rolled, no leaders may help. This recently resulted in a Unit being forced OUT of a Town Assault hex.... The unit failed the demoralization role, and thus had to flee... Again, units on the outside---which had NOT activated before FOG struck ---Can they Opp fire? FOG has struck, but the unit is forced to move in the open in Opp fire range of enemy units.... We ruled that the enemy units WOULD get to opp fire as had this happened before FOG, they would have had the opportunity---and the Demoralization rule is intended to remove the ability to GAME your demoralization units... they are out of your control. Interested in feedback on any of the above....and our choices... cj
RE: And the Officers ran away...but... - treadasaurusrex - 05-24-2025 The victorious combat unit, or units, in the close assault hex would try to capture the lone enemy leader on a 2D6 roll of 9 or more before that leader could displace one hex. As such I expect, assuming he survives the morale and leader loss, he is simply displaced. If that isn't the case, wouldn't every displacement result in a free shot. As it is, there is a 72% chance of him dying with the displacement roll anyway. RE: And the Officers ran away...but... - cjsiam - 05-24-2025 redundant post copy from quick edit... ? RE: And the Officers ran away...but... - cjsiam - 05-24-2025 To clarify---- When "he displaced" --means he rolled for capture, and failing that ( rolling <9) he displaces...meaning a 27.7% chance of dying...so you had it switched.. Peter, you're right---the officer would NOT be subject to Assault Free shot(I knew it sounded odd when I typed it...) ---just capture.... BUT---Would he be subject to Opp Fire?? when he displaces? The rule says units spotted and in range, so maybe not. Then, would a lone leader moving be subject opfire? RE: And the Officers ran away...but... - OldPueblo - 05-25-2025 You bet! The fleeing leader would be eligible to receive opfire as a moving unit, that is leaving an assault hex. Reading through the definitions in section 1.2.....I think the differentiation that leaders are not units may be questionable.... they are not Combat Units, clearly--- The FOW variant which does not require them to roll if demoralized if FOW ensues I think stands on it's own, but All references to "units" would have to apply to leaders as well...don't recall this morning where other issues arise. |
