I'm having trouble imagining that thickness. Do you own Beyond Normandy? How do they compare to those counters?

RE: price hike France 40 - larry marak - 08-14-2014

3 Beyond Normandy counters = 1 Liberation counter. The BT counters are just slightly thicker than you die-cut Eastern Front counters.

Imagine playing a scenario combining Normandy with the SS units from Black SS and additional AFV's from Liberation :-)

Shad, I will measure counters from several games tonight and post the results.

Thickest are certainly the Liberation '44 counters at 1/8". I love them.

Single measurement, so no average +/- std. deviation.

BN = 0.036"
BSS = 0.058"
KSF = 0.056"
KBT = 0.095"

Do not have Liberation. I prefer the BSS/KSF thickness, though concede not much use (yet) of the KBT.

Sadly for me, I think you are probably right Daniel. I can't see me buying anything again from the company as long as the new style continues. Plenty of scenarios to go round in the meantime though. (Should I get back to playing PG that is)

Yes, BSS and W&P were the best counters to my taste when talking thickness. That said, the standard size from all but BN were fine too.

IIRC When France 40 was put back in stock, they had to replace one? unit countersheet with the new counters. If anyone has them we can compare the difference between old and new counters in a single product.

Q1 - I'm curious what tool allows you to claim 3 decimal digits of precision... some sort of calipers?

Q2 - I've been outside the US for a decade... does your tool also have metric units? Big Grin

Q3 - Can you measure one of the older die-cut titles like Eastern Front or Bulge?

Q1: Yes, "some sort" of calipers with 0.001" accuracy according to the claim of the manufacturer (Yuasa - a Japanese company). Its actually more accurate than that as one can interpolate between "ticks," but I thought two significant digits was sufficient.

Q2: multiply the value in inches by 25.4 mm/inch (although my measurements contain only two significant digits).

Q3: An older RtB set gives 0.044-0.045". Thicker than BN, but less so than BSS and KSF.

Some might note the following fractional equivalents:

1/64" = 0.0156"
2/64" = 0.0313"
3/64" = 0.0469"
4/64" = 0.0625"
5/64" = 0.0781"
6/64" = 0.0939"

RE: price hike France 40 - Hugmenot - 08-14-2014

The way I measured the BT and Lib '44 counters was to stack them until they reach 1" in height; 8 counters for Lib '44, 10 for BT.

Very scientific method.
