RE: Map Art Poll - Matt W - 03-09-2014 The one good thing about he historical maps (well there's a lot good about Cassino, but really only one about BN) is that they do not have the geomorphic artifact of great terrain for movement along the edge of the board. I find that these provide for a very common avenue for the attackers in "enter & exit" scenarios and an artificial one at that. Similarly each long ridge line is punctuated by odd passes at the edges of those RtB boards with the map sized hills. While the SoI and Kokoda maps have board wide ridges they are quite specialized (and both are quite high!) and don't yet have enough mates to form a more cohesive terrain. Looking at the ridge map from Burning Tigers indicates more of the same. I love the geomorphic maps and the variety we are now getting but will look for more terrain mods to eliminate the idea that every ridge, every forest and every marsh, etc., has a 200-400 meter hole in it at least every 3-4 kilometers or so. RE: Map Art Poll - zaarin7 - 03-09-2014 I would agree on the edge effect. I have seen it on every geomorphic map I've ever seen except for the rare one were two were meant to meet along one edge to make like a hill mass. Fair too much of a gentleman to swear but BN maps are very average. They are though ugly and the counters are thin.... exactly the opposite to how I like my women. RE: Map Art Poll - vince hughes - 03-10-2014 To be a little kinder to the BN maps, I'll say this. I have taken part in 3 scenarios on them, and when emplying them, I actually like using them. Both the games against Wayne (Cahier) and Tony (43rd Wessex Attacks) found the maps very functional and topographically speaking when I have Google mapped the 2 battle areas, they are not bad at all. I must concede, that when I opened the box the first time I did think "Boy, they are gareish and ugly" RE: Map Art Poll - campsawyer - 03-10-2014 With BN maps, something about all those dotted trees gets me. Take those out and it would be better, but it would still need more. I would like to see it in more of a FoF style and the same with Liberation. RE: Map Art Poll - vince hughes - 03-10-2014 I'd like ALL the western European maps in FoF / ER style !! |
