Off topic here, but on topic in a way. If I wanted to say take a nation or group and design units for them and then design a scenario with them and an already existing force, how difficult would that be?

Depends on the Nation and 'Group'. What do you mean by group ? A specific Division ? Or a specialised group of troops ?

From there, it would be a case of looking at weapons and training for the foot-troops and gun size, ammo types and muzzle velocity comparisons for AFV's & Ordnance.

However, before 'designing' anything, it would be best to know the system very well so that you would have a good handle on how they would 'fit-in' to the system.

I am not planning on it. I just wanted to know the difficulty of it, because just from the little bit I have played it seems like you have to have researched quite well.
I know Mike Perryman goes through a number of books on the subject matter he designs. I guess, dependent on the 'matter' being designed will vary on how much there is "Out There" available to use as research.

Perhaps even other games that have been designed on the same subject matter that you are researching might even be referred to ?
John, thanks for the Mega Scenario for Beyond Normandy. When I reviewed this game back in 2006 I labeled it Panzerblitz perfected, which time has shown it was not, but I love playing out a series of battles over a historical map of the battlefield, and the protracted campaign around Caen is perfect for a demonstration of PG as one continuous battle.

Pretty easy. The toughest part is getting tactical descriptions and OOB of the battle you are trying to model.
Outstanding work John. Reminds of the work done for PB/PL in years past.
