This might be redundant, blatantly crass, exhibiting ignorance or even insultant, but.....

How in the world does one get into the Gold Club? (There IS an alternative rationale here, I would like to improve my PG collection, however the prices preclude a rapid expansion.)

Thanks,

GG
For the Gold club, first ask yourself how much you intend to spend next year. The breakeven point is over $200, but less than $250. The true breakeven will depend on which games you want. My marker would more than 2 full games, with expansions being ⅓ to ½ game. To complicate it more there are at least 6 free DYI expansions, plus some extra counter sets. That might make the cost better for a 1st time user. Keep in mind that some of those expansions use boards that are no longer in print. (I also think I made a much better Arctic Front counterset too.)

The Gold Club cost $75, about ¾ of a game. If you are still interested click on the Gold Club link on the APL site. Do buy anything else at that time. Wait for your first Gold Club newsletter. It will have the discount codes and a link to the free library.
Thanks for the info, Mate. My intent (at the moment) exceeds the "break even" point, so it sounds like a deal to me.

Here are my DYI counters. They help with the Gold Club freebees.

I have one other point to make. APL is a small company and Mike is making a "living" at this by providing games and semi-daily content. I personally feel like there is one way of looking at it to break even as Peter mentioned, but an additional benefit of membership being a ratable revenue source for APL which evens out the ups and downs for them. If they make some baseline from us every year that they can count on that regular revenue might keep the lights on if nothing else. In the situation like South Pacific where they work on it for a long time, (several years sometimes... cough... cough... cough) That means they are allocating time on something that pays off in the future, it is an investment. If those long term projects hit snags (cough... cough... cough...) Then they may not have the dosh to keep the lights on.

I look at it like a salesman's base and commission. Base is not enough, but it helps.

I just feel that if you like the games, get the Gold Club and look at it as keeping the business open.

Somethings in life are transactional, some are existential. I think that APL is worth worrying about them in general, not just when we want to get something.

I will add though that in Gold Club you will get lots of pre-release offers that seem really wonderful, but sometimes that pre release is a long way ahead of the product. I personally wait till "x" is shipping before I order it. I don't get the great deal but I don't wait for it forever either.
Good points, Goosebrown.... on the other hand it just might be a reward for "repeat customers" (which I intend to be). Yes?

Don't forget that you can add your Gold Club discount to your re-enlistment next time around. Mike makes staying in the club worthwhile, unless you stop playing altogether!

Peace. Michael

It is not a bad deal if you are looking to purchase in bulk to get free shipping and you can catch a sale or two during the year to maximize the discount, you will make up the $75 with free shipping after a couple of orders.  If you are going to buy only a couple of games at a time might not be worth it.
On the same subject (close anyways)..... I have received my email newsletter and have been given a number of Passwords/Codewords to use to get my discounts....... how does one put these into an order so that I may save some bucks?

When you checkout, there is a coupon box. Put the code in there and click apply. Enter all the coupon codes you want, one at a time. They will accumulate as they are applicable.
