Answer: Because God loves the Infantry!!!!!
Please bear with me over this first paragraph before reading the rest. For those who don't know, the question and the answer have been bandied about by Infantrymen from time immemorial. The Color of the Infantry Branch, in the U.S. Army, has been Sky Blue for most of its existence. That piping color was used on U.S. Army Infantry Uniforms dating back before the Mexican War, with only a short period where the color was changed to white in the late 1800s. Infantry Regimental Flags and battalion colors have been using a darker blue since 1835. That being typed, I wish to bring your attention to the following.
I just finished the last scenario in Uber Mentor on vassal. I logged it in as a new solo play. When I went back to my profile I saw that I had earned my first campaign ribbon and it made me smile.
The campaign ribbon is an homage to the unit patch used at the Infantry School at Fort Benning. I wore it twice in my Career; when I attended Infantry Officer Basic Course (IOBC) back in 1996-1997, and when I attended the Infantry Captains Career Course (ICCC) in 2000-2001. The unsubdued patch is the same color blue with white letters and symbol, the bayonet is exactly the same, and the Motto of the Infantry School emblazoned on the patch is "Follow Me."
I was delighted when I saw it. I was extremely delighted when I realize that it is the first campaign Patch earned at PG-HQ, just like it was the first patch I wore when I left Cadet Command.
