For almost all conditions where being a unit matters---No.

Not for possession, not for left alive, not for losses.....

I agree that a simple line in the definitions parts of the rules would be of utility...

One thing to remember---is killing them is pretty hard.....they don't take step loses...they can be moraled to death...and they suffer
officer casualties when steps are taken.....but the only ways to take steps off/remove them are different then UNITS...
No, leaders are not units.
Section 2.4 lists units as platoons (infantry, armor) and batteries.  Leaders are listed as individuals.
No, a leader is not. a unit. In some armies, a leader is barely a leader!0 Big Grin
Ok, so, on the DF CRT, under the X result, "all other units in the hex must make M2 morale checks", the leader(s) do not check morale?
Doesnt make sense to me

Ive been playing it that the leaders get the M2 when a step is lost in their hex...

Rule 14.1 is your friend in this instance.
I was pretty sure i was playing right by having them share the MCs. Im going to revise my CRTs tho' to say "unit/leader"
