Full Version: Those little goliaths

Goliaths appear in Burning Tigers and in Panzer Lehr 2 (but not used). In KBT they have a move of 4, in PL2 they move 7. The usage rule says they are integrated with their control unit for all purposes until deployed. The deployment range is 2 hexes, then they try to blow something up.

Assuming they are deployed with foot units in KBT, their most common historical usage, what good is the move of 4? They are moving as part of their control unit, moving at 3. In PL2, they are presumably attached to the Tiger (361st Pz Pioneer Company), moving at 5, or with a foot unit moving at 3. The thought here is, shouldn't the movement of a goliath be (2)? As in moves with controller, moves 2 hexes when deployed?
I am at work now but I know I have used them in a scenario.
From memory,

Goliath moves with the controller until deployed; in other words it does not pay movement costs when moving with its controlling unit. Once deployed it moves on its own and uses mechanized movement costs to do so. Thus, when deployed, they can move up to 2 hexes away from their controlling unit as long as they have sufficient movement points to enter both hexes.

And they try to blow up something real good, even Meryl Streep if she mentions Disney again.
That is not quite how the rule is written:
Quote:... The control unit and the Goliath count as one unit for stacking and transport purposes and must remained stacked together until the Goliath is launched at its target.

....
To launch the Goliath the control unit and Goliath must begin their activation one or two hexes from the target Minefield or Entrenchment marker. Once launched, place
a Moved/Fired marker on the control unit and move the Goliath directly at its target. .....

Nothing about movement class, or using movement points. Thanks for sharing the intent. The KBT unit makes more sens now.
I am not sure that was the intent; only Mike Perryman would know for certain.
Ok, I know the Goliath appears in at least scenarios 20-23 of Burning Tigers and I used/played with them in scenario 23: Drive on Ponyri IV: Standing Their Ground.

I used the scenario book special rule #4.

I had two Goliath counters in that scenario, one was successful one wasn't and that is all I remember other than it was kind of cool to use them.
