Here's the situation-
Two Soviet 8-10 mortars (same hex = 16 strength, direct LOS)! bombard a stack w a 3 strength German infantry, a leader, and 3 Soviet full-strength T26s, all stacked together in an assault battle.

Does the Bombardment follow rule 4.4.; in this case? 4 total units, friendly and enemy, are stacked together? Thus, the player would use one die roll for a result of the whole stack?
No, you calculate for a bombardment attack on the German INF & Leader.

Then you go through the friendly fire procedure for the T-26s.
The fish has it right.

The exact rules to look up are 9.5 Friendly Fire and 9.51 Same Hex,
I think actually where I'm becoming confused is the 4th Ed. Bombardment Chart, 2nd column of explanatory column modifiers, where it gives a +1 per 4.4 to 3 or more units in a hex, but not does not allude to friendly or enemy. Thus both sides incur the +1 modifier?
Oddly, no. Only for each side. So the Soviet's get the +1 but the German's do not. Also the Soviets get a -1 due to friendly fire I believe.
I apply the - 1 friendly fire modifier only for adjacent hexes, not for assault hexes.

I would not be opposed to that though the rules don't say anything about it.
Note there may be another modifier for a direct line of sight on the friendly fire (in the firer's favor, thus -1)
