Well, the nominative plural is
opera. But the genitive plural, which you need above, is
operum.

I don't recall that O'Brian ever specified in the book (
HMS Surprise). But given that the sloth was captured in Brazil, perhaps the best guess would be:

The rule here is that Blabbermouth can warn you to save nickles, but not leak details till Mike has spoken. So far he,s only gone public with Rise of the Dragon (Japan in the Med 1915). If I weren't retiring in 45 days I'd set asside $100 for PG and $60 for GWAS. And I'd be looking for more room in my AAAD box.
