Fronte Russo ...some support
Hy folks, the appearance of Kursk South Flank prompted me to provide some follow-up support to Fronte Russo.

I think one thing that I would like to fix is the map lay out of a few battles that raged, mostly in the winter of 1941-1942, in the sector of the Celere division. Most of them are named Christmas Battle. There is indeed a minor clash occurring during June 1942.

The scenarios involved are 16, 18, 19, 24 and 42. I wholeheartedly encourage you to use map 38 from Kursk South Flank instead of map 2. The reason is that the town north of the large hill is the village of Voroshillowa, which was much smaller than the town displayed in map 2 … of course at that time no better solution existed but map 38 fits very nicely.

That village is relevant but never key in those scenarios with the exception of 42, which focuses on the assault to the village. For the same reason I think scenario 42 will benefit the most. The hill south of the town becomes larger, but this should work fine.

Map 38 should be placed upside-down. Wood hexes should be considered as light wood and the town hexes of the small (two-hex) town do not exist.

Initial set up is marginally affected in scenario 24. The Italian 2nd company of VI battalion set up on hill hexes south of the town (no longer on or within one hex of hill hexes) – the group that includes the HMG and the 47mm gun – and on hex 0201 – the group with two BERS – map 38.-

Two additional minor clarifications. Christmas Battle scenarios: I quoted the 10th panzer division, actually the German unit involved was the 10th panzer regiment. Scenario 24: there are no rivers (and no gullies) on map 2, just ignore the “other” section.

Otto,

Good to see a designer keeping his esigns current with new available changes.

I have written in my Fronte Russo book the new changes but it only goes up to scenario 41.

Scenario 42 which is available as part of a free ownload oes NOT have board 2 listed on it ? It has boards 1,3,7 and 12

Can this be posted as errata in the PG HQ Scenario archive? I'll forget about this years down the road otherwise.

Ottavio,

Scenario 2 includes 7 Soviet lieutenants but there are only 6 in EFD. I was uncertain whether to draw one less for the forces starting on board or to use one additional lieutenant from another supplement (Workers and Peasants was Matt's suggestion), and thus I selected one lieutenant randomly and then found the corresponding counter in another supplement to give the Soviets a better chance (and they almost pulled it off).

Scenario 4 includes two Soviet majors but there is only one in EFD. I decided to replace the major with a captain in the reinforcements entering on turn 15.

I will post my AARs a few days after I finish scenario 4.

The game balance will not be severly changed if you replace the major with a Capitan.
So I think it's fine. More in general I had in mind that there would be more than one counter mix for Russiams.

When I have time I'll package these neatly and include them either as errata or scenario notes.

Thanks for your hard work, Ottavio! Smile
