Saipan 1944

Yorek, available direct from Avalanche means that the game is mail order only, not gold club only. There are simply no plans for a retail distribution of Ethiopia. Picture in your mind, Rastafarians all over the world lining up at retail outlets to get Ethiopia hot off the presses.....

The Saipan page still shows "495 playing pieces: 330 superb laser-cut combat units and 165 die-cut markers".

I thought there would be a few more counters counters in the re-release...

Larry,

That's fine. Actually, I was trying to address a point raised by an earlier post of Nebelwurfer's in clarifying GC vs. "direct only." Looks like I had it correct.

Personally, I have no interest in Ethiopia. Thanks for the clarification, however.

Hugmenot:

The new publishers preview http://www.avalanchepress.com/SaipanPreview.php states:

Fourth Edition rules for Panzer Grenadier, an improved and streamlined new version of the popular game system. There are full-color play aids, and a brand-new sheet of colorful markers. Very colorful markers.

It would appear that the updated marker counters will be part of the new run for Saipan. Perhaps, though, this isn't what you meant?

No, I heard there would be more a few additional playing pieces but it's just an unconfirmed rumor at this time.

I will get the new markers with Burning Tigers and Pusan Perimeter!

Those additional 22 counters will be released with the Guam & Tinian supplement, with two additional maps.

"Those additional 22 counters will be released with the Guam & Tinian supplement, with two additional maps. "

Clearly the right way to go. The initial idea was to grant Gold Members the privilege of purchasing the new countersheet only instead of the whole new game.
That was not my cup of tea.
I'm very glad that Mike is becoming more flexible and for the first time there will be a supplement with both new counters and maps. Perhaps the new laser counter technology made the difference.
I'm really looking forward to the release of these supplement in the "new" format.

Apparently Mike is getting more flexible even on overlays. In the past he always claimed to dislike them but recently he reacted constructively to a post suggesting their use.

I'm confused. Is the Saipan re-release the same as the one we got last year or not? Is there to anybodies knowledge an update available?

Same thing with a few updates. 4th edition rules, brighter maps and the new laser counters.
