Invasion 44
Check out the maps for Invasion 44 now up on the website.  If you thought map 13 was difficult to navigate, you ain't seen nuttin yet!  No wonder the Wehrmacht was able to delay the breakout for so long.  Perfect terrain for dug-in defenders.

Historically accurate or not, looking at those hedges just makes me feel tired...

I think these maps are destined for the extension game Panzer Grenadier: Fangorn Forest!

When Mike Perryman sent the maps to Daniel and I to develop the game we both had a bad reaction. The problem is that the bocage really does work like that. The fields are 100-500 yards long at most and the hedges are nearly impenetrable.

It presents some neat problems to the attacker.
No "minor" country left behind...

RE: Invasion 44
I suspect it will create many a situation where progress can only be made by assault, and there are deflilade avenues of approach to the battle for both attacker and defender. Long range weapons will have to be used at point blank range. Which is EXACTLY what happened in Normandy. As the developers have stated elsewhere, this game will call for a style of play closer to that of Semper Fi Guadalcanal than Eastern Front Deluxe.

Hedgerows and hedgerow line of site has always been controversial in PG. The Hedgerows in Beyond Normandy had to be played differently from those in Airborne map 13.

The Germans actually found the Bocage to be just as much a problem for them as it was for the Allies from the perspective of LOS and command.

and..... you will find that your commanders are similarly hamstrung in the bocage. Carefully established chains of command will fray upon contact...

I hope they brought compasses, not like those wankers in the Pacific who wander off in 1d6 directions Big Grin

I've been to that area. The maps do a good job of showing what I remember.

Play Saipan with the 4th edition rules where they pretty much always wander.  Coordinated assaults are a pipe dream!
