I'm being systemically fussy again. This time about 100mm howitzers. I already have an idea how I want to work these in the OOB extensions, but thought I would bring my internal discussion here. After all, things always sound better in your own head as opposed to dealing with outside feedback.
First for WW2 games, there are 6 weapons designated generically as 100mm artillery.
Then, more specifically, there are 2 designated as 100mm/14. I take those to refer to the Skoda houfnice vz 14.
These strongly resemble the
Austro-Hungarian 10cm/14. So I conclude that 12 factor 100mm guns should be the Skoda houfnice vz 14. Higher value ones are probably the later version Skoda houfnice vz 14/19.
Now let's complicate this. The Book of Armaments has 100mm artillery for 5 nations/forces, including the Soviet Guard and Nazi SS. All have a bombardment factor of 12, but in the book, Dr. Mike says he rethought it and says they should have a bombardment factor of 14. (Elsewhere he says that this is to prevent 100mm guns from combining to make a 30 point attack.)
What I am thinking is that the German and Romanian pieces, should have a sub-designation of 100mm/14 or 10cm/14, probably in the historical name. They should also be remade as 100mm/14 pieces the OOB extensions, with an additional note in the extension documentation. 14-point 100mm counters should be added to the Polish, Hungarian and Slovak 15-point weapon entries in the library. 14-point versions of the guns should be added as alternates to the OOB extensions, probably as defaults for the Polish and Hungarian entries. (The Slovaks had a 1930 version of the Skoda gun in the Mobile Division for 15?)
Any thoughts on any of that?
