Bad Road to Hastenrath Old vs. New
Old and "new" are relative terms of course: the scenario Bad Road to Hastenrath appears in Roer River Battles RoRB #2 (copied in Invasion of Germany #27) and is reworked in the more recent Spearhead Division #9 (SD).  Thought it might be interesting to post how the scenario changed.  The => arrow of time will indicate changes from the older version to the newer.

Boards:  24 + 11  => 24 + 22  (presumably to use only ER maps)
Length: 12 turns => 16 turns (US has more time - as they are on the offensive)

German OOB:
5xGREN + 1xENG => 6xGREN (slight weakening, particularly if the ENG is involved in a town assault)
=> lose their 2x strongpoints
=> gain 1xCPT leader

US OOB:
3xINF => 3xArmored INF (gains +1 DF value putting an individual platoon onto the 7 col)
armor mix seems essentially the same, despite name/designation changes
US initiative 4 => 3  (German is 2 in both)
=>Gain 1 SGT leader
OBA   2x18 => 1x18 + 1x24

Victory and MUD conditions seem essentially the same.  German minefield/wire draw unchanged.

So the changes seem to favor the US side: four more turns on the offense; stronger US "infantry" units, whilst the German infantry is weakened slightly both with the loss of the ENG's town-assault bonus and the 2x strongpoints.  Each side gains an additional leader for flexibility and assault work. The US OBA is slightly improved.

The RoRB version was a relatively popular one:  10 plays; 6 AARs; with 6 GER victories (including my own); 1 draw; 3 US victories.  The AAR's, unfortunately, did not include any of the US victory plays.

The SD version has 3 plays; 2 AARs; with 1 GER victory; no draws; 2 US victories.  The AAR's both from US victory plays.

I have not played the SD version (haven't played PG for quite some time now).  But maybe ...
