Try Edith Cavell. I'm a Brit living in Belgium. I'd never even heard of her until I had to go into the Edith Cavell hospital for a minor operation. There's even a monument to her in London!

Mind you I am sightly shocked you had not heard of her before Bangla. However I have not heard of PL's American heroine. The American War of Independence, as we Brits call it, is not a huge subject over here. even after 200 plus years we like to pretend it never really happened.
