The Germans are hampered from the outset due to the decreased visibility and the very plentiful, though inconsistent British artillery. The Germans had a real hard fight for Gavrus, and as they began to move around the remnants of the Argylls, the Herefords counterattacked out of Tourmaville. The Cameronians also attacked the other German flank from Grainville sur Odon. The 19/20 SS made good ground talking Cahier and le Valtru, but the Seaforths, Cameronians ground them to a halt. The Glasgow Highlander's moved down to the Odon behind Gavrus, and the 21st SS could not push them out of the way and hold back the Herefords. The Argylls were completely destroyed and the Seaforths and Glasgows suffered heavily as well. The plentiful British artillery was a real hindrance, often disrupting or demoralizing troops set to move/attack at crucial times. The SS units performed better in the assault and their high morale helped, but it could not overcome the constant losses that finally ground the Germans to a halt.
