The Serbs deployed upriver with the idea of fighting a delaying action using the current to defensively drift down the river, hoping to sink a couple of Marine laden AH boats, but the AH had other plans. The AH monitors lead the charge, their 8-8 & 6-5 AT fire blew most of the Serb boats out of the water, the AH did come under fire from three Serb shore batteries protecting Belgrade, which sank one gunboat with the loss of a Marine platoon. Once the shore batteries were dealt with the AH landed their Marines to capture Belgrade.
